When remodeling your home, the two most expensive areas to work on are typically the kitchen and the bathrooms. Of these, the kitchen is usually the most pricey, covering more square footage and having expensive appliances to replace. So, if you are wanted to shave some of the cost off your overall cost, the kitchen is the place to target.
However, you don’t want your remodel to look like a job half done, so you’ll need to target certain areas, so you can save money and not make it look like you have cut any corners. You could spend hours online looking for ways to do this, but in practice, all you need to do is follow three simple steps.
Only Replace What You Need To
When you are planning your remodel, you need to look at the fitted cabinets to make sure they are sound. If they are in good condition, you don’t need to replace them, and you can just pay for new doors instead. This is because kitchen cabinets have changed very little over the last couple of decades, and what you would be putting in (provided they are made from durable materials like solid wood) will be pretty much the same as you have just taken out.
Even if you are moving things around a bit, you can re-use the cabinets, so you can make a massive saving here.
Shop Far and Wide for Appliance Deals
The next thing to look at is your appliances and, in particular, your new refrigerator. These can be one of the most expensive things in the house (often more costly than your TV), so money can be saved here by getting a good deal, or even a used one in good condition. You might find by searching online that you can get a used top-level appliance for the price of a new one from a lower-quality supplier.
It will still be a big purchase, though, so you need a refrigerator shipping company to get it to you. Whoever is selling it might have a general courier company lined up, but they won’t necessarily know anything about moving a fridge. Instead, you should take care of this part and find the right company that will get it to you in peak condition, so it still looks as good as new.
Upcycle to Give It a Unique Touch
The fridge is not the only area where you can buy used to save money. By targeting other items in your kitchen, like the table and the chairs, you can find yourself a project and put your stamp on everything. You might just want to rub down and revarnish or wax these, or even go full out and use chalk paint to match the rest of the kitchen décor.
This can provide the perfect centrepiece for the finished kitchen. It should look incredible, and none of your guests will know you did it all on a much lower budget (unless you tell them, of course).
